Welcome to BWM.
We are one of the leading accountancy practices in Liverpool with a heritage that can be traced back to 1926. At BWM we provide a wide range of accountancy and business support services to organisations and individuals throughout the North West of England and beyond. As a successful, growing business that has recently taken investment, we are big enough to deal with complexities of our largest clients, yet small enough to care about the needs of all our clients, irrespective of the size of their businesses. Our client base ranges from individuals and families to large companies and charities.
Having recently taken funding from Cow Corner, which will facilitate greater investment into staff and resources, we are looking forward to growing the business and embracing the long-term opportunities this investment will bring for all in the years to come. Our experienced and skilled partners and their teams are ready to support our clients with high quality, individual yet affordable services however complex the personal or business needs.
Our People
Our partners and senior managers have Big 4 or national accountancy firm experience, and we take pride in offering the same quality of service as you would expect from a large firm but with the flexibility and personal approach you would associate with a local firm. As a close and effective team we aim to keep the same people dealing with your work from year to year and we enjoy low staff turnover generally.
Our Pricing
We offer affordable, competitively priced services, combined with a friendly, yet highly professional approach. We take a menu based approach in offering our services so that you can ask us to undertake other work on your behalf if you wish.
We are always pleased to offer advice, and do not charge for dealing with routine minor queries or tasks. We offer flexible payment methods, including direct debit and standing order options to help you spread your payments and manage your cash flow.
Our Expertise
Beyond compliance work, we take pride in helping our clients overcome a wide variety of financial challenges. Our expert team look for opportunities to maximise your profits and optimise performance. Our partners are readily available to talk to you, all being based here in our one office makes for efficient and seamless communication. Our History
Now one of Liverpool’s leading independent accountancy firms, BWM (formerly BWMacfarlane) was created through the merger of the long established Liverpool firms of Bresnan Walsh with Macfarlane + Co in February 2011.
Having recently taken funding from Cow Corner, which will facilitate greater investment into staff and resources, we are looking forward to growing the business and embracing the long-term opportunities this investment will bring for all in the years to come.
Supporting Charities & Communities
A number of our partners and employees are on the board of trustees for charities, often in treasury or chairperson roles, providing them with commercial business advice. BWM fully supports and encourages this, and offers time off to attend meetings etc. where necessary.
BWM are proud to have signed the 10% More ‘Social Value Charter for Liverpool’ and is committed to working towards its 6 key principles.
1 Local Liverpool Employment
2 It’s Liverpool…Buy Liverpool…Buy Social First
3 Supporting Liverpool Communities
4 Ethical Liverpool Procurement
5 Green Sustainable Liverpool
6 Good Liverpool Employers
We also support a number of charities throughout the year with fund raising activities or pro bono accountancy advice to those that need it.
Equal Opportunities
We are committed to providing equal opportunities in employment. This means that all job applicants and employees will receive equal treatment regardless of race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, disability, trade union membership or non-membership, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, gender reassignment, marriage/civil partnership, age or on the basis of being a part-time or fixed term worker. The Practice’s objective is to ensure that individuals are selected, promoted and otherwise treated solely on the basis of their relevant aptitudes, skills and abilities.
Our firm reflects our belief that a diverse culture provides a healthy work environment.
Environmental Impact
We take a socially responsible attitude towards reducing the environmental impact of our operation and as we are based in the city centre can encourage all our staff to use public transport or share car journeys. We use recycled paper where possible and recycle paper for internal purposes where it does not contravene the Data Protection Act. In our offices the lighting, heating and IT automatically turn off when not in active use.
Extensive use is made of Information Technology to carry out and enhance the systems based approach to all aspects of our work so we are continually using less paper. We routinely recycle or donate any redundant IT equipment.
Helping Young People to Work
We regularly offer roles to trainees and support them through their professional exams, we find we get really excellent people this way. Additionally we offer work experience places to several local schools to let which is lots of fun, although requires a bit of juggling to keep them busy when we are busy!
Working Better with Suppliers
We know we like to get our bills paid on time by our clients and think it is only fair to commit to pay our suppliers promptly as agreed at the outset. We work with lots of local suppliers, from IT specialists to Catering companies and always like to recommend them to other local businesses when we can.
Making Life Better for Employees
Flexible working hours and days are something that benefit many of our staff, meaning they can balance their other commitments such as caring for children or other relatives with their passion for doing a good job.
We also participate in a childcare voucher scheme as you might expect from an accountancy firm offering taxation advice!
